Violation established, special investigation : CCI Rule 400.4158 Intervention standards and prohibitions

Through interviews with youth and staff, video footage and other documentation reviewed, there is evidence to show that Staff 1 punched back at Youth A during an escalated incident and therefore this rule was violated. Technical Assistance provided: • It was discussed with the Chief Administrator that an incident of this magnitude should require significant debriefing after the fact, including video review of staff involved for both negative and positive aspects of what occurred. • The facility is advised to revise their behavior management policy for clarity to staff on what responses to physical aggression from youth are acceptable and what are not. Consultation provided: • The facility is advised to have discussion and planning surrounding how staff members can effectively team and communicate with each other while an escalated incident is occurring in order to produce the safest outcome for all involved.
