Tallulah Correctional Center for Youth
Also known as Swanson Correctional Center for Youth/Madison Parish Unit
Tallulah Correctional Center for Youth was a juvenile correctional facility in Tallulah, Louisiana, operated by State of Louisiana. It operated from 1994 to 2004.
About Tallulah Correctional Center for Youth
It opened November 1994 as a privately operated youth prison on the western edge of Tallulah (Wikipedia, Tallulah, Louisiana). The state took over in 1999 and renamed it Swanson Correctional Center for Youth/Madison Parish Unit; the Juvenile Justice Reform Act of 2003 required it to close by the end of 2004 (Wikipedia). The site later became the Louisiana Transitional Center for Women (Wikipedia).
CSC's 1998 annual report called it the largest privately run juvenile facility in the country (Encyclopedia.com CSC history). Trans-American Development Associates built it; three of its executives received $8.7 million from the deal between 1995 and 2001 (IPS).
