This survivor-led study examines how LGBTQ+ youth experienced conversion therapy inside U.S. therapeutic boarding schools, a branch of the Troubled Teen Industry. Through interviews with former students, it documents how identity was pathologized and suppressed under the label of treatment. The study focuses on both overt and subtle tactics used to enforce conformity, resulting in long-term psychological harm. It calls on social workers to recognize how conversion practices can appear in evolving and often unspoken ways.
