'Critical' staffing issues, officer missteps blamed in teen's death at LA County juvenile facility
A settlement of $2.5 million has been recommended in the death of 18-year-old Bryan Diaz, who died from a fentanyl overdose at the Barry J. Nidorf Secure Youth Treatment Facility. The facility was found to have critical staffing issues and inadequate supervision, which contributed to Diaz's death. The county has since taken steps to improve security and train staff on the use of Narcan.
