Lawsuits

  • Estate of Van Johnson v. Sequel TSI Holdings, LLC, Sequel TSI of Alabama, LLC, et al. 2019 | Unknown | Circuit Court of Limestone County, Alabama

Outcome: No reported outcome found. Sequel closed the Madison facility in August 2019.

The family of Van Johnson, a 61-year-old construction worker killed behind a Madison Publix in August 2017, sued Sequel and the two youths charged with his killing. Police said the two had left the Sequel TSI (Three Springs) facility on Browns Ferry Road the night before. The complaint says the facility was understaffed and poorly trained and failed to recognize the two as threats despite their 'history of violence, aggression, lack of empathy,' and that several youths had escaped in the years before. The family's lawyer said they wanted the facility closed or its security strengthened.
